Jetty Road, the tram and the side streets

Jetty Road runs from Brighton Road down to Moseley Square and the jetty, with the tram line from the city running along it. A truck cannot stand on the tram tracks or stop the tram, so a home that faces Jetty Road is usually loaded from a side street or a rear lane instead. The streets either side of Jetty Road are narrow in places and parked on both sides, and closer to the beach parking fills quickly when the weather is good. We plan where the truck will stand before the day, and choose the truck from the inventory and the street rather than sending the biggest one we have.

• Facing Jetty Road? Tell us whether there is a rear lane, a side street or a driveway the truck can use.
• Near the foreshore? Moving early in the day, before the beach traffic builds, makes parking easier.
• Side streets: ask neighbours if the truck can stand across their frontage for part of the day.
• Glenelg North, around the Patawalonga, and Glenelg South are quieter, but streets can still be tight for a large truck to turn.

Glenelg apartments: lifts, docks and strata rules

A large share of Glenelg moves are apartments, from the towers on the foreshore and around Holdfast Shores to smaller blocks of units in the streets behind. Apartment moves run on the building’s rules. Most ask residents to book the goods lift and the loading dock, set the hours removals can use them and ask for lift walls to be protected. Some have a car park entry too low for a pantech, so the truck loads from the street.

1. Ask your building manager or strata for the move rules: lift booking, dock access, hours and any bond.
2. Book the lift and dock for the whole move, at both ends if you are moving between two apartments.
3. Measure big pieces against the lift door and the lift car, and tell us about anything that will not fit, so it can be planned for the stairs.
4. Tell us the building’s rules when you ask for a quote, so the crew and the time are planned around them.

Moving by the sea: sand, salt and wind

Homes near the beach bring a few things suburbs inland do not. Sand gets into everything, so floors and doorways are protected while the crew carries and the furniture is wrapped before it leaves the room. Wind off the gulf can catch a mattress or a large mirror on the walk to the truck, so they are wrapped and carried with care.
