Removalists Adelaide: complete house moves, start to finish

Most people searching for removalists in Adelaide are planning a whole household move: three or four bedrooms of furniture, a kitchen of breakables, a garage and a shed, with a settlement date that will not move. That is the job Moveall is built for. Moving Company Adelaide is a service of Moveall Australia Pty Ltd, a South Australian owned and operated removalist, and this page walks through a complete house move with us from the first call to the first night in the new home.

What complete house removals in Adelaide include

A complete move means one company takes responsibility for the whole household, not just the drive. With us that covers:

  • A written quote built from the inventory of what is moving, after we have asked about bedrooms, living areas, access at both homes and heavy items.
  • Packing, if you want it, through Moveall’s Wrap & Pack service, with every box and packing material supplied.
  • Furniture protection: moving blankets, wrap, and care on floors, stairs and doorways.
  • The right truck: Moveall runs 3, 5 and 8 tonne pantechs, and the truck is chosen from your inventory.
  • Moving day: loading in a planned order, the drive, and unloading at the new home.
  • Placing: every box and piece of furniture taken to the room it belongs in, and the beds sorted first.

Heavy and bulky pieces such as a piano or a pool table travel inside the same move, with extra team members and specialty equipment. We do not take on single-piece deliveries; our crews are planned around whole homes.

A house move with Adelaide removalists, step by step

  1. The first conversation. Call or send the planner with where you are moving from and to. Our customer care team asks how many bedrooms and living areas you have, what the access is like at both homes (stairs, lifts, driveways, parking) and whether anything is heavy or bulky.
  2. The written quote. We put together a quote for your move and send it in writing. Under Moveall’s terms a fixed-price quote relies on the inventory list from the quote, so list every room, including the garage, the shed and the outdoor furniture.
  3. Booking. You can book with us directly or book online with Moveall, which takes under two minutes. For a local move a deposit confirms the date and the balance is paid a day or two after the move.
  4. Getting the house ready. If you are packing yourself, loose items go into cartons and furniture is emptied of loose items before the day. If Wrap & Pack is packing, we bring the boxes and materials and pack the house, so you can head out for the day and come back to a house ready for the truck.
  5. Moving day, the load. The crew protects floors and doorways, wraps the furniture, and loads the truck so heavy pieces sit low and boxes stack on top. Fragile cartons are kept where they will not be crushed.
  6. The drive. Across the suburbs, up the South Eastern Freeway to the Hills or down to the beaches. Your valuables, documents and keys travel with you, not in the truck.
  7. Unloading and placing. Furniture goes into the rooms you choose and boxes go to the rooms they are labelled for. Beds go together first so the first night is easy.
  8. After the move. Update your address with Service SA within 14 days, and check the house you left once the truck is gone.

Sizing the removal: the inventory decides the truck

The number of bedrooms is a starting point, not an answer. A three-bedroom home with a full double garage and a shed can hold more than a four-bedroom home with little outside. That is why we work from an inventory. Once we know what is moving, we choose the truck from Moveall’s 3, 5 and 8 tonne pantechs and the number of people the job needs. Pantechs are enclosed removal trucks, so the load is out of the weather from the first carry to the last.

If you are not sure what to list, walk the house in order: each bedroom, the bathrooms and linen press, the kitchen and pantry, the living and dining rooms, the laundry, the garage, the shed, the garden and the space under the house. Note anything unusually heavy or large, and anything that comes apart. The more complete the list, the closer the quote is to the day.

Packing: do it yourself, or let Wrap & Pack do it

Packing is the part of a move that takes the longest and causes the most breakages. You can pack yourself, or Moveall’s Wrap & Pack service can do it: we wrap and pack all approved household items and supply all the different boxes and packing materials, with purpose-made boxes and wrapping for clothes, books, heavy items, fragile items, TVs and artwork. The full detail is on our packing services page.

If you pack yourself, keep each box to one room, label it on the side as well as the top, keep books in small boxes and pillows in large ones, and pack an essentials box for the first night that travels with you.

Removals in Adelaide streets: access and parking

Adelaide is an easier city to move in than most, but every move has its own access problems, and they are what decide how long a job takes. Character streets in the inner suburbs can be narrow, with cars parked both sides. Newer estates in the north and south have tight cul-de-sacs. In the Hills, driveways can be steep, long or gravel. Apartment buildings have lifts and loading docks with booking times.

In the city, we check parking and loading rules with the building and the council before moving day. Rundle Mall is a good example of why: the City of Adelaide does not allow vehicles in the Mall from 9am to 6pm Monday to Thursday, 9am to 9:15pm on Friday and 9am to 5pm on weekends, and permit holders may only enter outside those hours. Our local movers Adelaide page covers access suburb by suburb, from CBD apartments to Hills driveways.

Heavy and bulky items inside the move

A piano, a pool table or a solid timber dining setting needs more than two people and a trolley. Moveall’s heavy and bulky items service adds extra team members and specialty equipment to the move for those pieces. We handle them as part of a complete household move rather than as separate jobs, and we need to know about them at the quote. Read more about pianos and heavy items.

Care, cover and what you can expect

Moveall works to what it calls strict handling and packaging procedures. Furniture is wrapped before it leaves the room, blankets go between pieces in the truck, and floors and doorways are protected while the crew carries. How each type of furniture is protected is on our page for the professional movers Adelaide homes need for good furniture.

Moveall holds $20 million public liability cover. Ask us about transit insurance for your belongings: under Moveall’s terms, goods are not insured in transit unless you arrange cover, and Moveall can put you in touch with its preferred insurer. Australian Consumer Law also says a service must be provided with due care and skill, within a reasonable time.

Removalists in SA: after the truck leaves

South Australia asks you to update your address within 14 days of moving. One update with Service SA changes the address on your driver’s licence, vehicle registrations and boat registrations, and it can be done online through a mySAGOV account in a web browser or at a Service SA centre. Once you have lived at the new address for a month, update your electoral enrolment with the AEC. Our article on your change of address after moving in SA has the full list.

Questions people ask

How long does a house move in Adelaide take?

It depends on the volume, the access at both homes and the distance between them. A small unit with easy access is a much shorter day than a large family home with stairs, a long carry and a steep driveway. Your quote is built from the inventory and the access, so ask us for a time estimate when we quote.

What day is best to move house?

Mid-week and mid-month dates are usually easier to book than the last and first days of the month, when many leases and settlements fall. If your date is fixed by settlement, book as early as you can.

Do I need to be home on moving day?

Someone who can make decisions should be at the old home when the truck is loaded and at the new home when it is unloaded, to point out what goes where and to check nothing is left behind.

What should I not pack in the truck?

Keep cash, jewellery, important documents, medicines, keys and anything irreplaceable with you. Do not pack flammable or dangerous goods such as gas bottles, fuel, paint thinners or pool chemicals.

Will you take the furniture apart?

Tell us at the quote which pieces come apart, such as bed frames, large tables or modular wardrobes, so the crew can plan for them. We will confirm what is included in your quote.

Do you charge extra for items that are not on the quote?

Under Moveall’s terms, a fixed-price quote relies on the inventory list from the quote, and extra items on the day are charged on time. A complete inventory keeps the quote accurate.
